Overview
Letting people fix a typo or update a submission usually means creating accounts and resetting forgotten passwords. GravityView – Magic Links removes that step. Once someone submits a form, a unique link arrives in their inbox and takes them straight to their own entry, where they can make changes at their convenience.
The plugin works with GravityView and gives administrators control over who can ask for a link. You can validate email addresses or limit requests to specific domains, and you can set expiration times for both the link and the editing window. It suits sites that collect information users may need to correct later, such as registrations, surveys and applications.
Features
- Unique, time-limited edit links: Each user receives a secure link by email that opens their own form entry for editing, so no account or password is needed to make changes.
- Email validation controls: Decide who can request an edit link by validating the email address against the one tied to the entry, so only the right person gets access.
- Domain restrictions: Limit link requests to specific email domains. This helps when only people from certain organizations should be able to edit their submissions.
- Adjustable expiration settings: Set how long a link stays valid and how long the editing window lasts, which keeps access to submitted data limited in time.
- Automated email delivery: Magic links are sent by email after a form is submitted or when a user requests one, with no manual sending required.
- Entry-specific link scope: A magic link works only for the entry, View and action it was created for, which keeps each link tied to its intended purpose.
- Merge tag for links: The {gv_magic_link} merge tag places a magic link in notifications and confirmations, so you can hand users their edit link where it fits your workflow.
- Built to work with GravityView: The plugin follows each View's email validation settings, so link requests behave consistently with how your GravityView setup is configured.
Best for
- Event registration forms where attendees update details
- Survey and application forms that need later corrections
- GravityView sites that want login-free editing
Changelog
Version 1.3.0 — 1 October 2026
- Improved Faster request form submissions, with magic links now created and emailed in the background (on some servers, the email may take a few minutes to arrive).
- Security Magic links now work only for the entry, View, and action they were created for, and link details are kept out of logs and away from other sites.
- Improved The request form now follows the View's email validation settings, so a View set to "Don't validate by email field" with an empty Allowed Emails list sends links only through notifications.
- Fixed Issues with the {gv_magic_link} merge tag: Tags inserted from the Gravity Forms merge tag menu produced no output; Confirmations displayed the link's HTML as text, and plain-text notifications included link markup; Delete links did not work when the tag output a plain URL; Links were created for Views that were disabled, unpublished, or connected to a different form.
- Fixed Email addresses were not recognized as matching when their capitalization differed.
- Fixed Magic links did not work for some email addresses.
- Fixed An error occurred on PHP 8 when opening a malformed magic link URL.
- Fixed Each new entry stored its magic link twice.
- Security Added gk/gravityview/magic-links/query-param/token and gk/gravityview/magic-links/query-param/email filters to rename the gv_magic and gv_email URL parameters: Names already used by WordPress or GravityView are ignored, with the reason written to the Magic Links log; Links sent with the default names keep working after a rename, but links sent with a previous custom name do not.
- Improved Fixed a PHP warning written to the debug log when a magic link opened Edit Entry for a View with an empty Edit Entry layout.
