Overview

Selling a digital product usually means keeping track of who can use it, on how many sites and for how long. Doing that by hand takes time and invites mistakes. GetPaid License Manager automates the work inside your WordPress site. It generates license keys, handles activation after a purchase, and applies the limits you set, so customers can start using a product right away.

The plugin connects to GetPaid, so licensing sits alongside your existing checkout. You can offer single-site, multi-site or custom licenses, set expiration dates and cap the number of activations. A dashboard gathers licenses in one view, and an API lets your own products check whether a license is valid. It also works with Kadence Cloud for selling access to library items, templates and template parts.

Features

  • Flexible license types: Create single-site, multi-site or custom licenses so each product can match the way different customers plan to use it.
  • Expiration and activation limits: Set an expiration date on a license and limit how many activations each one allows, which helps protect your digital products from unauthorized use.
  • Automated license activation: Licenses are activated automatically, so customers can begin using a product right after they purchase it.
  • Built-in key generator: Unique license keys are generated and distributed for you, which saves time and cuts down on manual errors.
  • Central management dashboard: Monitor all licenses from a single interface and keep track of usage, renewals and expirations without switching screens.
  • API for license validation: Add license checks to your own products or systems through the API so that only valid licenses are accepted.
  • Kadence Cloud integration: Sell and control access to Kadence library items, templates and template parts using the same license tools.
  • Tiered site options: Choose from Single Site, 5 Sites or 25 Sites licenses to fit the size of your business and your client base.

Best for

  • Sellers of WordPress themes and plugins
  • Creators selling templates and design assets
  • Kadence Cloud library and template sellers

Changelog

Version 2.0.4 — 29 October 2026

  • Improved Licenses block and [getpaid_licenses]: items and per_page arguments (per_page -1 shows all), and the getpaid_license_manager_widget_query_args filter; pagination follows the page size and the item filter.
  • New Search on GetPaid > Licenses: part of a license key, a license, invoice, user or customer id, or the customer's email, username or name.
  • New Filter the licenses list by user, customer, item or invoice from the URL, with a notice and a link back to all licenses; the status tabs count within the filter.
  • New Renew a license: a Renew button on licenses that have expired or expire within 7 days (and no subscription is renewing them) opens the item's checkout; paying extends the same license (same key, sites kept) instead of creating a new one.
  • New Links to a customer's licenses: a row action on each license, a Licenses column on GetPaid > Customers, a link in Users and on the user's profile.
  • New Indexes on the licenses table's customer_id and user_id.
  • Security A completed subscription only makes its license lifetime when every planned payment was made; a subscription marked completed any other way (e.g. PayPal's end of term for a cancelled or failing subscription) expires its license at the paid-up date. Licenses already made lifetime this way are not changed by the update; review completed subscriptions that were not fully paid.
  • Fixed Changing an invoice's customer left its licenses with the previous user; they now move to the new user (user and customer record, with an invoice note), including licenses on renewal invoices that move with their subscription. Licenses that belonged to someone other than the previous user are left alone.
  • Fixed Filtering licenses by last activation date was ignored, or used the expiry date values instead.
  • Fixed Passing the order as a list to the licenses query caused a fatal error on PHP 8.
