Overview

Event calendars are easier to use when people can see where things happen. MEC Advanced Map adds map views to Modern Events Calendar so visitors can browse events by place as well as by date. You can choose OpenStreetMap as an alternative to Google Maps, which suits sites that want to avoid usage limits on map services.

The add-on also gives visitors ways to narrow things down. Street and Region filters limit results to a specific area, and a side-by-side layout shows the map next to the event list. Clustered markers keep crowded areas readable. Zoom levels can be set for single event maps and map shortcodes, and frontend submission forms can collect exact addresses from users.

Features

  • OpenStreetMap option: Use OpenStreetMap in place of Google Maps for your event maps, which removes the usage limits tied to some map services.
  • Street and Region filters: Visitors can filter events by detailed address fields such as Street and Region, which narrows a search to a precise geographic area.
  • Side-by-side map view: Show the map and the event list next to each other, so people can browse events while seeing where each one takes place.
  • Additional locations on events: Single event pages can display more than one location, which gives visitors fuller venue information for events that span several places.
  • Clustering markers: Nearby event markers are grouped together, which keeps the map clean and readable when many events sit close to one another.
  • Customizable zoom levels: Set zoom preferences for individual event maps and for map shortcodes. Mouse wheel zooming lets visitors look closer at a location.
  • Next and previous buttons: Buttons let visitors move through geographically nearby events, so they can explore around a location without returning to the full list.
  • Frontend address fields: Submission forms include address fields so users can enter exact event locations, and a Google Maps direct view link opens the area on Google Maps.

Best for

  • Event sites built on Modern Events Calendar
  • Organizers listing events at many locations
  • Sites that prefer OpenStreetMap over Google Maps
