Ultimate Member - Private Messages

Communities and membership sites often need a way for people to talk privately without leaving the site. Ultimate Member – Private Messages places that conversation inside the member profile. A message button on each profile opens a messages modal, and a dedicated Messages tab gathers every conversation in one place for reading and replying.

Control is shared between members and administrators. Members can switch private messages off, block specific people and choose whether to receive email alerts. Admins can limit messaging by user role, cap how many new conversations a role can start in a set timeframe, and set a maximum reply length. Messaging can also be limited to followers only. It suits sites that already run on Ultimate Member.

Features

• Message button on profiles: Each user profile gets a button that opens a messages modal, so members can start a private conversation with another member at any time.

• Automatic message refresh: Conversations update on their own without a manual page refresh, and users receive alerts when new conversations start.
• Role permissions and limits: Admins choose which user roles can send or receive messages and can restrict how many new conversations a role starts within a set timeframe.
• Block and privacy controls: Members can turn private messages off from their account page, and block or unblock specific members from their account settings.
• Email notification preferences: Users get email alerts for new messages and conversation requests, and can switch those emails on or off to suit themselves.
• Follower-based messaging: Messaging can be limited to followers only, so users let only trusted connections reach them.
• Unread count and online status: The {new_messages} tag shows the unread message count in site menus, and a green dot appears next to profiles of members who are online.
