Overview
Stores that sell to nonprofits, government bodies or business buyers often need to remove tax for certain customers. Doing that by hand takes time and invites mistakes. Tax Exempt for WooCommerce moves the process into your store. You choose which customers or user roles can claim exemption, and the plugin applies the change at checkout for those who qualify.
There are two ways to grant exemption. You can ask customers to submit a tax certificate and details through a customizable form on the My Account page, then approve or reject each request from the back office. Or you can assign exempt status straight to chosen users or roles with no paperwork. Customers can be exempted automatically at checkout or by ticking a checkbox, and guests can claim it too.
Features
- Role-based exemption control: Allow all user roles or only selected ones to claim tax exemption, so you decide exactly who qualifies for tax relief in your store.
- Customizable exemption form: Customers can submit tax certificates and required details through a form on the My Account page, which you can adjust to fit what you need to collect.
- Admin approval review: Review each tax exemption request in the back office and approve or reject it, keeping compliance decisions in your hands.
- Automatic or checkbox exemption: Remove tax automatically for approved customers, or show a checkout checkbox so buyers can choose to claim their exemption themselves.
- Direct exemption without documents: Grant exemption to selected customers or user roles without a submitted form, which suits trusted exempt buyers you already know.
- Guest checkout claims: Guests can claim tax exemption during checkout through customizable prompts, so they do not need to create an account first.
- Expiry dates for approvals: Set an expiry date on each approved exemption to keep records current and track when renewals are due.
- Status in order pages and emails: Exemption status appears on customer and admin order pages, and customizable emails tell admins and customers about submissions, approvals, rejections and expirations.
