Overview
Search on a multilingual site can return pages in the wrong language or miss translated content. WPML ElasticPress addresses this by passing WPML's language data to ElasticPress, so each query is checked against the visitor's selected language. Translated posts, pages, custom post types and taxonomies stay searchable, and right-to-left scripts are handled too.
Search queries are offloaded to Elasticsearch, which reduces the load on your own server when traffic is heavy. The plugin works with WPML and ElasticPress, so you need both in place. You can also adjust how the search results blocks look and are structured to fit your design. It suits small blogs as well as large platforms with growing amounts of content.
Features
- Language-filtered search results: Search results are filtered by language, so visitors see only the content that is relevant to the language they have selected on your site.
- Built on ElasticPress: The plugin uses the ElasticPress search infrastructure, which is designed to respond quickly and scale, including on large multilingual sites.
- Works with WPML content: Translated posts, pages, custom post types and taxonomies remain supported, so your existing WPML setup carries over into search.
- Filters and relevance ranking: Visitors can move through results with filters and refined relevance ranking that apply across all of the languages your site supports.
- Lower server load: Search queries are offloaded to Elasticsearch, which reduces the work your own server does when the site is busy.
- Right-to-left script support: Sites with multiple languages, including right-to-left scripts, can keep every language variant searchable and displayed correctly.
- Customizable results layout: You can tailor the appearance and structure of the search results blocks so they match your site's design and branding.
- Suited to sites of any size: The plugin fits small blogs through to enterprise-level platforms, keeping multilingual search consistent as your content grows.
Best for
- Multilingual WordPress sites already running WPML
- Large sites with many translated posts and custom post types
- Site owners using ElasticPress for search
