Overview

Changing a live WordPress site carries risk. A plugin update can clash with a theme, and a migration can break links. WP Staging Pro gives you a separate copy of your site to test those changes first. You create the clone in one click, work on it freely, and leave the live site alone until you are ready.

The plugin also covers backups and moves. You can run manual or scheduled backups of your database and files, send them to cloud storage, and restore them later. Data stays on your own server rather than passing through an outside cloud service. It works with multisite networks too, so developers, agencies and site owners with more complex setups can use one tool for testing, backup and migration.

Features

  • One-click cloning and staging: Create a full copy of your WordPress site with a single click, then use it as a safe place to test updates, themes and plugins without affecting the live site.
  • Manual and scheduled backups: Back up your whole site, including the database and files, on demand or on a customizable schedule. Multiple backup versions can be kept, and schedules are not limited.
  • Site migration: Move a site to a new domain or server, including multisite networks. Link replacement and database adjustments are handled automatically during the transfer.
  • Multisite support: Clone and manage multisite installations, push changes from staging to live, convert a multisite to a single site, and migrate individual network sites.
  • Separate databases and locations: Keep a staging or development site independent by cloning it to a separate database, a subdomain or a custom directory.
  • Staging site access control: Restrict who can view or work on a staging site with user role permissions, so only authorized users can reach your test environment.
  • Cloud storage uploads: Send backups automatically to Google Drive, Amazon S3, DigitalOcean Spaces, FTP/SFTP or Dropbox to keep an offsite copy.
  • Push changes to live: Move themes, plugins and database updates from a staging site to your live production site once you have tested them.

Best for

  • Developers testing updates before they reach a live site
  • Agencies managing backups and migrations for client sites
  • Site owners running WordPress multisite networks

Changelog

Version 6.19.0

  • Improved Enh: Let a backup plan keep up to 30 backups instead of 10.
  • Improved Ux: Keep the log filters and autoscroll working for a job that runs on the first run page.
  • Security This release includes security hardening. Updating is strongly recommended.
  • Fixed A restore no longer gets stuck on "Extracting files" when a backed-up file cannot be written; the file is skipped, logged, and the restore continues.
  • Fixed A backup plan launched in the background no longer reports a successful run before its backup exists.
  • Fixed A finished background job is no longer reported as failed, and a lost one is reported as failed instead of running forever.
  • Fixed The live logs and Cancel button of a running backup stay available after its job metadata expires.
  • Fixed The backup queue is no longer purged while a job is running, instead of reporting success while the job continues.
  • Fixed Backups are stored in wp-content/wp-staging/data when the uploads folder cannot be written, so the Backup tab loads with external uploads.
  • Fixed Unreadable subdirectories are skipped when calculating the backup size instead of crashing with a fatal error.
  • Fixed A newly created or reset staging site opens right away instead of showing 'This staging site is not finished yet'.
  • Fixed Updating or resetting a staging site on an external database no longer stops with a fatal error when the site has no stored database prefix, and refuses to run when its tables would be the live site's.
  • Fixed Activation no longer overwrites a setting in a broken wp_options table and explains how to repair the table first.
  • Fixed The LiteSpeed Cache Unique CSS, Critical CSS and image placeholders are cleared after a restore, a push or a new staging site, so the page layout is not broken.
  • Fixed A Classic push now stops before the database phase when files fail to copy, instead of reporting success.
  • Fixed Large backups uploaded to pCloud no longer stay at 99% after the file is on pCloud.
  • Fixed A wp-config.php with Windows line endings no longer gains a blank line after every line when WP STAGING rewrites it.
  • Fixed Resetting a staging site no longer stops when its wp-config.php is read-only on a Windows host.
  • Other Plus 33 more fixes.

Earlier versions

  • 6.18.0: 2 improved, 8 fixed
  • 6.17.0: 3 new, 34 improved, 52 fixed
