Overview
A default WordPress dashboard can get crowded, especially once many plugins add their own entries. Clients and other users may see menus they never need, and some of those pages hold settings that are risky to change. Admin Menu Editor Pro lets you tidy the menu so each person sees only what fits their work, with a layout that follows a logical order.
You edit the menu by dragging items into place, then set visibility by user role or for single users. A live preview shows the result before you apply it site-wide. Add-ons for the Toolbar Editor and Branding extend the changes to the admin bar and the login screen, and saved menu setups can be exported and reused on other sites.
Features
- Menu permissions by role or user: Hide or show menu items for specific roles or individual users, which gives you precise control over access without changing anyone's WordPress role.
- Drag and drop organization: Move, rearrange or group menu and submenu items by dragging them, so the admin interface follows your workflow or the needs of your clients.
- Custom menu items: Add top-level or submenu links to posts, pages or external URLs, or create non-clickable section headers to organize a complex admin menu.
- Icon library and custom icons: Pick from over 600 icons from Dashicons and FontAwesome, or upload your own PNG or GIF icons to make menu entries easier to recognize.
- Menu color controls: Change background, text and icon colors for the whole menu or for single items, to match a brand or make the menu easier to scan.
- New tabs or iframes: Open menu links in a new browser tab, or show external pages and tutorials inside the dashboard using a borderless iframe.
- Hide installed plugins: Hide selected plugins from certain users or roles on the Plugins page, which reduces the chance of accidental changes or confusion.
- Import and export menu setups: Save a customized admin menu to a file and apply the same configuration on other WordPress sites, which helps agencies and freelancers repeat their setups.
Best for
- Agencies handing WordPress dashboards to clients
- Freelancers who reuse one admin setup across sites
- Multisite owners with user groups needing different access
Changelog
Version 2.37.1 — 3 October 2026
- Improved Added optional checksum and signature verification for plugin updates. It's currently optional because there hasn't been sufficient real-world testing done, but you can switch it to "required" in the "Settings" tab, under "Update verification". The default setting will also be changed to "required" eventually, in a future release.
- New Added a "Block URLs" section to the "Tweaks" tab. It lets you block access to certain URLs by role(s). It works both with admin dashboard URLs and frontend URLs. This only affects logged-in users since anonymous visitors don't have any roles.
- Improved Tested up to WP 7.1.2.
