Overview

DNS changes rarely appear everywhere at once. After you edit a record or move a domain, some servers may still return old answers, and it is hard to tell which ones. Global DNS lets you look up a domain against servers in different regions and read the results right inside your WordPress admin. That removes the guesswork about whether a change is live.

The plugin covers 10 DNS record types, including A, MX, NS, CNAME and TXT, and it accepts an unlimited number of DNS servers, so you can build a list that matches the regions you care about. It also includes a WHOIS lookup, a DKIM record checker, an on-site IP lookup and a Dark Mode admin interface. Administrators, freelancers and site owners can all use it for routine DNS checks.

Features

  • Ten DNS record types: Check up to 10 record types, including A, MX, NS, CNAME and TXT, so you can troubleshoot web, mail and verification records from one tool.
  • Unlimited DNS servers: Add as many DNS servers as you need and compare their answers, which lets you tailor checks to the regions that matter for your domain.
  • Live propagation status: See which servers currently resolve a domain and which records they return, so you know whether a DNS change has spread.
  • DKIM record checker: Look up a DKIM record by selector and domain with a shortcode or form. The tool shows the raw TXT value along with its parsed tags.
  • Export and share results: Export propagation results as CSV or JSON, or copy a share link to a time-limited, read-only snapshot that others can view.
  • WHOIS lookup: Pull extended domain information from within your site. This feature requires PHP fsockopen and TCP Port 43 on the server.
  • Admin settings and limits: Set options such as TLS verification for probe URLs, connection timeout and share link lifetime. Rate limits also protect lookups and share creation.
  • Dark Mode and responsive layout: Switch to Dark Mode from the admin dashboard, and check DNS status on desktop, tablet or mobile screens.

Best for

  • Site owners moving a domain or changing hosts
  • Administrators and freelancers who manage client DNS
  • Anyone verifying MX, TXT or DKIM email records

Changelog

Version 3.3.0 — 11 May 2026

  • New DKIM record checker: shortcodes global_dns_dkim_input and global_dns_dkim; REST POST /global-dns/v1/dkim/{selector}/{domain}; raw TXT plus parsed tags.
  • New Propagation toolbar: export CSV/JSON and Copy share link (outline-style actions; share uses admin primary color); time-limited snapshots (POST /global-dns/v1/propagation/share); read-only GET .../propagation/share/{uuid}; shortcode global_dns_propagation_share_view with ?global_dns_share={uuid}.
  • New Database table for snapshots, daily cron prune, uninstall cleanup.
  • New Admin: Verify TLS for DNS probe URLs, HTTP connect timeout, Propagation share TTL (days), Propagation share button (show or hide “Copy share link” on the server list), DKIM checker shortcut (toolbar link when DKIM form exists on page).
  • New Shared Global_Dns_Dns_Input_Validator, Global_Dns_Http_Probe, Global_Dns_Rate_Limiter; rate limits (transient buckets) for DNS propagation fetch, propagation share create, and global_dns_throttle_contact() for third-party contact forms.
  • Improved Remote DNS probe calls use hardened HTTP client (timeouts, connect timeout, optional TLS verify).
  • Improved IP lookup (on-site tool) uses the same HTTP client with TLS verification always on; HTTPS ip-api endpoint.
  • Improved Dig execution prefers proc_open with existing escapeshellarg command line; falls back to shell_exec.
  • Fixed DMARC input partial corrupted docblock repaired; safer JSON/options output.
  • Fixed Deactivation now clears propagation cron and removes global_dns capability (was incorrectly removing unrelated cap).
  • Fixed Propagation UI: clearer per-server errors from REST; URL hash uses encodeURIComponent for domain/type deep links; minimal export/share toolbar (admin primary color on Copy share link).
  • Fixed Repaired clearResults / map reset when the map is absent.
  • Fixed REST propagation and related calls: base64 domain segments are URL-safe (encodeURIComponent + server decode); X-WP-Nonce sent on REST POSTs for better compatibility.
  • Fixed Hostname normalization (Global_Dns_Dns_Input_Validator::normalize_hostname_input) fixed regex delimiter clash that broke domain parsing and caused false “invalid domain” errors.
  • Fixed Creating share snapshots returns 403 when the share button is disabled in settings.
  • Removed Unused duplicate public/js/global-dns-public-jquery.min.js (only global-dns-public-jquery.js is registered).
  • Fixed Removed scaffold “demonstration purposes” comment blocks from public and admin enqueue methods; shortened the public jQuery file header; fixed admin “Timeout” label typo.
