Overview

Dynamic WordPress pages are rebuilt on the server for each request, which adds load when traffic grows. Comet Cache Pro stores static copies of your pages, posts, categories and tags and serves those copies instead. The plugin is built to be simple, with a short configuration process that does not call for technical expertise.

Once caching is running, the plugin watches for changes to posts, pages, themes, tags and users, then clears only the cache files that need it. You can set expiration times, exclude certain URLs and browsers, and connect a CDN. It fits single blogs, multisite setups, membership sites and community platforms, since it can also cache content for logged-in users.

Features

  • Quick, simple setup: The configuration is short and well documented, so you can get page caching running without technical expertise or a long setup process.
  • Full page caching: Pages, posts, categories and tags are cached as static files, which lowers server load and speeds up page generation.
  • Automatic cache clearing: The plugin monitors changes to posts, pages, themes, tags and users, then selectively clears only the cache files affected so your site stays current.
  • Browser caching: Visitors' browsers can cache content too, giving a second layer of caching that speeds up repeat visits without hitting your server.
  • Feed and 404 caching: RSS, RDF and Atom feeds can be cached, and so can Not Found pages, which reduces strain from bots or invalid URLs.
  • Custom expiration and exclusions: Set cache expiration to match how often your site updates, and use URL and user-agent exclusion patterns to improve compatibility with themes, plugins and mobile devices.
  • CDN and logged-in user support: Connect a Content Delivery Network to distribute cached content, and cache pages for logged-in users on membership sites and community platforms.
  • AJAX clear button and compression: Clear the cache on demand with an AJAX button that avoids a full page reload, and compress cached HTML output to reduce page size.

Best for

  • WordPress site owners who want simple page caching
  • Membership and community sites with logged-in users
  • Multisite managers and agencies handling several sites

Changelog

Version 170220

  • New New Feature: Comet Cache can now be configured to automatically clear the cache for date-based archive views whenever any single post is cleared due to changes in content, title, etc. See: Dashboard → Comet Cache → Plugin Options → Automatic Cache Clearing → Auto-Clear "Date-Based Archives" Too?. See also: Issue #724.
  • New New Pro Feature: Apache Optimizations now include a new option that allows site owners to enforce an exact host name for all requests. See: Dashboard → Comet Cache Pro → Plugin Options → Apache Optimizations → Enforce an Exact Host Name?. See also: Issue #101.
  • Fixed Apache detection sometimes inaccurate. So instead of using default WP core globals for server detection, Comet Cache now uses it's own set of Apache/Nginx/IIS detection functions. And, this release enhances our Apache and Nginx detection routines; making them smart enough to catch additional edge cases; i.e., to further reduce the likelihood of there being a false-positive. See Issue #748.
  • Fixed Some XML-RPC and REST API requests were being cached inadvertently. See Issue #855.
  • Fixed Broken textarea field due to `white-space:nowrap` in Firefox. See Issue #866.
  • Fixed This release resolves empty directories being left in the cache folder, in some scenarios. See Thread #866.
  • Fixed Bug Fix (Pro): Some REST requests were being redirected incorrectly whenever Apache Optimizations were enabled. See Issue #855.
  • Fixed Compatibility Bug Fix: Some Jetpack API calls were being cached inadvertently. See Issue #855.
  • Improved Notes in HTML source now indicate fully functional on first load for improved clarity. See Issue #860.
