Overview
Selling themes, plugins or software means deciding who can use your product and for how long. This plugin handles that inside the store you already run. It generates a unique license key for each purchase, limits how many sites or devices a key can be used on, and lets you set license duration and renewal options for subscription or perpetual models.
Day to day, you manage everything from one admin dashboard where you can monitor, activate, deactivate and revoke licenses. Customers get a place to view and manage their own keys, and updates reach them automatically. A REST API lets outside applications check licenses, which suits developers and businesses that distribute software through Easy Digital Downloads.
Features
- Automatic license key generation: A unique license key is created for every purchase, so each customer receives their own key and your product is distributed only to buyers.
- Activation limits: Set how many sites or devices a single license key can be used on, which gives you control over the terms you offer.
- Built into Easy Digital Downloads: Licensing is managed directly inside your existing Easy Digital Downloads setup, so products, orders and licenses stay in one place.
- Automatic software updates: Customers with a valid license receive updates to your themes, plugins or software applications without having to look for them.
- Custom expiration and renewal: Choose how long a license lasts and what renewal options apply, which supports both subscription-based and perpetual licensing.
- Central license dashboard: Monitor, activate, deactivate and revoke licenses from one admin panel. Table filters also work with individual product variations.
- Customer license management: Customers can view and manage their own license keys, and license management and renewal blocks can display their current licenses.
- REST API license checks: Connect external applications and services to verify licenses, which helps when your software is distributed beyond a single WordPress site.

- Security Fixed a SQL injection issue in the license export’s status filter.

- Other Update package download links use a new signature, so links generated before updating stop working. They expire on their own within the store’s download link expiration (24 hours by default).

- Improved In the license renewal form and block, a license attached to a user account can only be renewed by that user.
- Improved With email matching enabled, a guest renewing a license attached to an account is now asked to log in.
- Improved Renewing a license no longer removes the same product from the cart when it’s already there as a new purchase. Both stay in the cart.
- Improved Fixed a false “already in your cart” message when renewing a product that was in the cart as a new purchase.
- Other Deprecated EDD_Software_Licensing::get_download_package(). Use EDD\SoftwareLicensing\Downloads\Package::get_download_package().
